To deter tomb robbers, the pharaohs of the 18th dynasty preferred to hide their tombs in the mountains rather than build pyramids. They also built mortuary temples far from the tombs. Most of these temples have been destroyed, but the temples of Hatshepsut, Seti I, Ramses II, and Ramses III still exist. In addition, the two colossi of Memnon are a reminder of the temple of Amenhotep III.
